Frequently Asked Questions

Who is an insured under a commercial auto policy?

The owner of a commercial trucking company, or owner-operator if the case applies, is listed as the ‘named insured’ on commercial auto policies.

Can I add or drop vehicles if my fleet size changes?

Yes! With CarrierHQ’s Small Fleet Advantage program you can easily add and remove units to fit your business’ needs. Updating the number of units on your account is easy, all you need to do is reach out to the Small Fleet Advantage Team at 1-800-492-5756 or email sfarrg@aon.com. They can update your account quickly – often same day. Unlike others, we don’t have artificial growth caps.

Do drivers need Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) experience to get motor carrier insurance?

Drivers need to have a CDL, but unlike many other insurance providers, the Small Fleet Advantage insurance program does not require drivers to have a minimum number of years CDL experience. Based on the FMCSA CDL Program drivers must have the experience, skill, physical abilities, and a high level of knowledge required to operate commercial vehicles. To learn more about obtaining a commercial driver’s license, you can refer to the FMCSA’s CDL site.

How can I lower my monthly insurance premiums with CarrierHQ’s Small Fleet Advantage program?

CarrierHQ’s Small Fleet Advantage program allows fleet owners to receive monthly premium reductions during the first full month of coverage based on safe driving. It’s easy to coach your drivers to improve performance using our Safety Center driving reports and safety data. Safe driving discounts are calculated each month using CarrierHQ’s exclusive FAIR Score. The program is a great way to save monthly AND encourage safe driving. It’s a win-win!

What is a FAIR score and how does it impact my fleet?

A FAIR Score is a rating CarrierHQ uses to evaluate driver safety and to determine if a customer qualifies for safe driving discounts. FAIR Scores are updated monthly and are used to determine if a customer qualifies for the safe driving discount. Upon signing up for CarrierHQ, customers receive a self-guided training on FAIR Scores and the safe driving discount. Customers can take an active role in monitoring their FAIR Score by signing up to receive text or email reports. To qualify for the discount, companies need to have a score of at least 716. Some of the factors that are used to determine FAIR Scores include:

  • Speeding

  • Congested driving

  • Travel by time of day

  • Travel by road class

  • Parking locations

  • Annual mileage

What types of trucks does the Small Fleet Advantage insurance program cover?

Class 6 vehicles have GVWRs between 19,501 and 26,000 and include three axels, single unit vehicles.
