The trucking industry is an irreplaceable part of the American economy, responsible for moving more than 80% of the freight transported in the United States each year. The Georgia Motor Trucking Association (GMTA), formed in 1933, remains steadfast in the organization’s commitment to promoting and protecting the interests of members of the Georgia trucking industry, from tractor-trailer drivers to dispatchers, distributors, and other support personnel.
History of the GMTA
The GMTA was born out of necessity when the trucking industry began reshaping American commerce. Freight trucking became a new, invaluable means of controlling the distribution of cargo throughout the country, creating a more market-oriented freight movement environment in the US. Early trucking entrepreneurs quickly learned that every market disruption inevitably led to political and regulatory backlash. The GMTA formed to ensure regulations at the federal and state levels remained logical and fair and to provide every Georgia trucking industry employee with a voice.
The GMTA began with one part-time employee working in the state capital building. Today, the organization has secured many key victories for Georgia truckers facing high taxes, restrictive regulations, and overbearing government interaction with the Georgia trucking industry.
The GMTA provides members with a host of valuable benefits, including an annual calendar of events aimed at advancing the interests of Georgia trucking industry personnel. A few of the events the GMTA organizes each year include the Fleet Expo, the Truck Driver Championships, and an Annual Convention. The GMTA hosts regular meetings throughout Georgia each year to provide members with the most up-to-date information about regulatory changes, new safety initiatives, and innovative new trucking technologies to make their jobs more rewarding and their lives easier.
The GMTA also partners with many businesses across the state of Georgia and beyond, offering members valuable benefits, special offers, and discounts. The GMTA is also a leading supporter of the Gary Sinise Foundation, one of the most efficient charities in the country aimed at improving the lives of veterans wounded and disabled in combat. The GMTA continues the mission set forth by its founders more than 80 years ago.
